The origins of global mobile communications today can be traced back to a single agreement signed on September 7th 1987 by Europe's biggest telecommunications operators. It was the catalyst of international cooperation on an unprecedented scale.

It laid the foundations for cross border mobile communications today used by more than 2.5 billion people in every country, and on every continent of the world.

It's impact on every day life has been startling. From basic voice services available to people in developing countries for the very first time in their lives, to sophisticated multimedia, entertainment and information downloaded over the air via mobile broadband. The sheer diversity of uses, the pace of progress and innovation, the social and economic impact of the mobile phone, has never truly been captured on one film -- until now.

The GSMA, the mobile industry's trade association, and TelecomTV, the industry's leading visual media group, have collaborated to document this story on film. Travelling to twenty countries from South Africa, China, India and Brazil to Japan, Rwanda, Italy, Finland and the US, this unique film captures an essence of how mobile is changing, enhancing and saving lives on a daily basis.

The Mobile World Documentary will be previewed in November, and premiered at the mobile industry's biggest event, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2008.
